Wayne Elbert Poe, age 79, of Lamar passed away Saturday January 27 at his home. Wayne was born in Greenfield, MO, February 22, 1938 to Frank and Alice Maxine (Perkins) Poe.  After graduating from Lamar High School in 1956 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps.  Wayne returned home and went to college at Pittsburg State University where he earned a BA degree in Business.  He began his professional career in consumer financing working for First Finance Company in Lamar and later for Beneficial Corporation in Lamar, Nevada and Joplin. He and his wife Dixie operated the Barton County License Bureau and later owned Dixie’s Burger and Shake. In recent years he worked for Thorco Industries before retiring. He was active in The Gideons International, a professional businessmen Bible distribution ministry. He was a life long member of the First Christian Church in Lamar.

Wayne is survived by his children:  John Alderman of Bowie, TX, Robert Poe of Neosho, Robin Burton of DeQuincy, LA, Rachel Poe of Columbia, and Ron Poe of Fort Lauderdale, FL.  He has nine grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Alice Poe, sisters Wanda and Doris, and wives Dixie Poe and Ruby Fowler Poe.  

 

There will be a memorial service 9:00 AM Saturday at the First Christian Church In Lamar. Mike Gage will officiate. Memorial donations may be sent to The Gideons International.
