Eldon Dean DeWitt, 79, Lamar, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Mo. Eldon was born July 17, 1931 in Guthrie County, Iowa to Charles and Hazel (Duke) DeWitt. He attended school at a country school in Guthrie County, Iowa. Eldon married Gladys Pearl Sloss on April 28, 1951 at Greenfield, Iowa. He was a retired dairy farmer, and had worked at the John Deere Plant in Iowa for over 15 years, and for Medlin Mobile Homes with set-up and delivery for several years. Survivors include his wife, Gladys, Lamar, Mo., a son Eldon "Dean" DeWitt, Jr. and wife Connie, Lampe, Mo.; a daughter Linda Lou Lavender, Springfield, Mo.; a brother Max DeWitt, Iowa; four grandchildren Krystal Schwabauer, Mark DeWitt, Deanna Baca and Lana Reed; and three great grandchildren. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles "Sonny" DeWitt and Donald DeWitt; and two sisters, Ila Lassek and Kathleen Stewart. Eldon was a member of the Living Hope Church of the Nazarene. He played gospel music in church on his guitar. He loved woodcarving; and to fish and hunt.
