Allen Miller, 67, went to be with the Lord at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at McCune Brooks Hospital in Carthage, following a short illness. Mr. Miller was born May 1, 1944, in Lamar, to Harold E. and Myrtle (Kunkler) Miller. He was a 1962 graduate of Lamar High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He started a career in law enforcement in 1975 with the Fort Scott Police Department. While with Ft. Scott he attended and graduated from the Missouri Police Academy (Missouri Southern State College in Joplin) and the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, where he was one of the first student instructors. He then went to work as a patrolman at the St. John Kansas Police Department, and later served as a Sergeant with the Morton County Kansas Sheriff’s Department. He went to work for the Hollister Police Department as a patrolman in 1985, and was promoted to chief of police there in 1988. In 1990 he went to work for the Humane Society of Missouri as a statewide investigator, retiring in 2007. He married Kietha Ginther on Dec. 15, 2006, in Red Oak. Survivors include his wife, Kietha Ginther; two sons, Christopher A. Miller and wife Rickie, Sedalia, and Erin Miller and wife Julie, Lamar; three daughters, Tammy Agee and husband Gerry, Cedarcreek, Nikki Brand and husband Jeremy, Lamar, Angela Miller, St. Joseph; five stepchildren, John Ginther and wife Gail, Carthage, Lori Bieker and husband Monte, Selina, Kan., Amanda Trimmell, Parsons, Kan., Marie Figura and husband David, Parsons, Kan. and Shiela Jones and husband Tim, Carthage, 22 grandchildren, two great-grandsons and a sister, Rena Crisp of Lamar, & Brother Carrol Lee. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Miller, who died in the Korean War.
