Beverly Maxine (VanKirk) Fleharty, 86, passed away at Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, KS on Wednesday November 29, 2023. She was born to Arthur McClellan and Marjorie Maxine VanKirk in Liberal, MO where she grew up. She was a 1955 graduate of Liberal High School and was the Annual Queen that year. After high school, Beverly traveled to California to visit family and remained for a year. She was briefly married to Johnny Probis. On November 29, 1961, she married Jim Fleharty and they remained married until his death in 2008. She worked in many fields during her life. Among her jobs she worked as a bank teller, cashier, waitress, and worked for Peerless and Norvell for several years. She was a great cook. Life was hard but she held on as long as she could. She was beautiful inside and out and was always willing to help someone in need. Beverly loved her family with all of her heart and will be missed by them.
She is survived by her daughter: Margie (Larry) O’Toole of Springfield, MO; sons: Richard Probis of Ft Scott, KS; James Fleharty of Ft Scott, KS and Gary Fleharty of Parsons, KS; and siblings: Jean Taylor of Pittsburg, KS; Judy (Bill) McManis of Pittsburg, KS; Jimmy VanKirk of Mulberry, KS; Donna (Brent) Thompson of Liberal, MO, and Dixie Hayes of Owasso, OK. She is also survived by the mothers of her grandchildren: Kathy Probis and Deanna Fleharty; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, and siblings Bob VanKirk, Jack VanKirk, Bonnie VanKirk, David VanKirk, as well as Dorothy and Rebecca VanKirk who passed as infants.
The family will receive visitors at Konantz Warden Funeral Home from 9:00 AM until the start of the service at 10:00 AM on Saturday December 2, 2023.
