Charlotte Marie Cundiff, 89, of Nevada, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. She was born December 16, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio to W.D. and Helen (Norris) Hughes.
Charlotte moved to Carthage, Missouri with her family in 1945. She was selected to be FFA Barn Warming Queen in 1950 and graduated from Carthage High School in 1951. In 1959 she and her first husband, Bill Erwin, Sr., and their young family moved to Nevada. She was an avid, lifelong seamstress and quilter. She was a member of Mo-Kan Square Dance Club, the Women’s International Bowling League, and the Trinity Lutheran Church of Nevada. She ran the Nevada License Bureau from 1972-1976.
Charlotte married Maurice Cundiff in Harrison, Arkansas on September 6, 1984. They built an extensive personal collection of tractors of all kinds. While living in Lamar, Missouri, they started SoMo Parts Company, handling toy tractors and parts. From 1986-2006 they traveled extensively to events, selling their toy parts and making friends throughout the Midwest.
Charlotte is survived by her sister-in-law, Kathleen Hughes; eight children and their families: Bill Erwin, Jr. (Janet), Jim Erwin (Vickie), Saundra Wehmeyer, Rick Erwin (Ronda), Russ Erwin (Marian), Sue Renwick (Pat), Sally Phipps (John), and Sherry Shaw; and her 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; her parents, W.D. and Helen Hughes; a brother, Ronald Hughes; her in-laws, Joe and Hazel Cundiff; and a son-in-law, Gary Wehmeyer.
A graveside service for Charlotte Cundiff will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 12, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oakton, Missouri with The Rev. Galen Friedrichs officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Konantz Warden Funeral Home in Lamar, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charlotte’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home
