John Smith

John Reece Smith, 55, Lockwood, Mo, passed away July 16, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 15th, 1958, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Norman and Vida Jo Drye Smith. John was baptized as a very young person and was confirmed August 22, 1999 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lockwood. He graduated from Hickman Mills High School, KCMO and worked for General Motor Leeds Plant. After it closed, he worked for Pennzoil Products. He owned and operated a screen print business that he bought to make jerseys for his son's soccer team. He was a coach for soccer teams in KC as well as for Immanuel Lutheran School. Later in life John co-operated a cattle and pig farm that raised all natural beef and pork. John was honored as Dade County farmer of the year. In March 1981, John married the love of his life, Lori Singleton, in Kansas City, MO. They had one child, Matthew, in 1987. Even when John lost his arm in 1992, it didn't slow him down. He had many health issues for a young man but always kept his sense of humor. John loved fishing, hunting, and working on "projects". He loved making "broken" items new again! John is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Vida Jo Smith, and his father-in-law Gordon Singleton. He is survived by his spouse, Lori, of the home; Son, Matthew, and wife Mallory of Berryville, AR; Brothers, Rick and wife Gaichylle of Lenexa, KS; Jeff, and wife Debbie of St. Charles; Mother-in-law, Judy, of Lockwood; Brother-in-law, Jon, and wife Laura of Raymore; Mike, and wife Connie of Lockwood; many nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends including CW and Sharon Harris, and Larry Davidson of Lockwood. John's confirmation verse was "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." Psalm 55:22
