Loyd Albert Pennell, age 94 went home to be with the Lord Friday March 6th at his home in Barton County. Loyd was born July 30, 1920 in Anita, Iowa to Alfred L. and Enola (Parish) Pennell. When he was 2 years old the family moved to Missouri where he grew up. His family moved around the area living in Dudenville for a while but finally settling in Barton county near Milford. He was one of 11 children in the family. He left home in 1941 to work as a cowboy on a cattle ranch in Idaho. During world war II he served in the Army as a B17 heavy bomber airplane mechanic in the European theater based mostly in England and flew several missions as a crew member on the planes that he repaired and maintained. Upon returning home he applied his mechanic skills to a career in servicing and repairing farm implements working for many years at the Morris farm supply and International Dealership in Lamar. He later was with McKinney's Implement where he worked until retirement around 1983. He also farmed and ran a sawmill through the years. On January 31, 1953, in Lamar, Loyd married Betty Lou Sparks and began a family. To this union was born 5 children. Betty passed away in October of 1985. Then in 1990, on the evening of August 8th at the Newport Baptist Church he married Martha Aline Moenning (nee Leeper) and inherited another 6 children and their families. Loyd was a member of the Newport Baptist Church. He was Baptized into Christ in 1963. Loyd had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. Over the years he enjoyed hunting and fishing and riding his Harley Davidson Motor Cycles. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty and later his wife Martha, one son, Darrel Loyd and one daughter Bonnie Marie, both children passed in infancy, 2 brothers, Roy and Leonard and 3 sisters, Viola Blackford, Mary Harris and Rosie Kaderly. He is survived by 2 sons; Harry Albert Pennell and wife Linda (who is also a step daughter) and Carl Arthur and wife Renee and a daughter Linda Strong and husband John all of Lamar. Also surviving are 6 step children including, Gary Moenning and wife Peggy, Chuck Moenning and wife Sherry, Scott Moenning and wife Thelma, Barbra Lawrence and husband Eric and "Tootie" Moenning and fiancé Al Brown; and grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, all treasured but to numerous to mention. Loyd has four surviving brothers, Louis of Jasper, Harold of Oceola, and Luther and Lonnie Pennell of Lamar; and two sisters, Edith and Wilma Pennell of Lamar.
