Miles Ranson Lani

On February 25, 2023, Miles Lani, 61, of Lamar, MO left this world to ride that big Harley path and to join the bikers that went before him to follow that path next to God. He left so suddenly that he left us all to struggle to find ourselves new paths to follow without him here.

Miles was raised and lived in the mountains desert area of Ely, Nevada. In 2005, Miles relocated to Lamar, MO to be closer to his recently widowed mother. He loved her so much and couldn’t stand the thought of her having to move forward in her elderly years alone. He worried that she would struggle and need help to take care of her property without her husband. Because he was so caring, Miles’s early and unexpected death is most difficult for his mother Rita Shafer of Lamar, MO.

He left the life he had built in those mountains, and he bought a home just blocks away from her. Miles loved the mountains of Nevada and planned to return to them when his mother didn’t need him in Lamar anymore.

Miles loved to just live life. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and teaching others to ride, riding bicycles, flying big kites, target shooting, welding, and was a good diesel mechanic. He was a safety nut through and through. Kids and the elderly were some of his favorite people. They always had an open arms policy for Miles and he for them. He was one of the most adventurist people around. He loved practical jokes, especially when they included fireworks or stunts on his motorcycle. He loved to laugh, even at himself. He was always up for a good time. His favorite things in life were true friends, kids, as he had none of his own, and his rescue cat, Bob. Miles lived life to its fullest. He loved to try new things even on the spur of the moment. He always wanted everyone around to have a good time. He had a thirst for learning new things. He loved to read. He did not like Facebook at all. He loved to talk to people and learn that way. His truest friend and family he met in Lamar is a man named Steve “Pickle” Dill and wife Carol all their family. He spent a lot of time with them, never missed their annual 4tth of July Picnic Party. Miles surrounded himself with what he thought to be the hard to find “salt of the earth, honest people”. And that is exactly what he found in Steve and the Dill family. Miles truly will be missed by lots of people. And as his sister, I know how hard it will be to find a new path to follow without him here.
