Robbie S King

Robbie Sue (Johnston) King was born August 29, 1930, in White Plains, KY to Lewis and Blanche (Allen) Johnston. The family moved to Wayne, MI during WWII where Lewis worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant. This is where Robbie met the love of her life, Wilford Eugene King, after he returned from serving overseas in the Army. They were united in marriage June 24, 1950. To this union four children were born. The family remained in Westland, MI until moving to Lamar in 1969, where Robbie resided until her health prompted her move to her son Bill’s home in Little Rock, AR earlier this year. Robbie was a bank teller early in her career and then thrived as a mom, and a church and community volunteer. Wilford and Robbie started the Good Samaritan Shop in Lamar and she also volunteered with March of Dimes, Salvation Army, and Red Cross. Robbie was a very good cook, specializing in pie and southern comfort foods. She was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church and of the Lamar Red Hats. Robbie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilford, daughter Marcia Pennell, great-grandson Colby Preston, and her sister Betty Jo Prieskorn. She is survived by her sister Nell Ruth Finley-Vorhees of Lamar, MO, daughters Jacqueline Sue (Steve) Bruce, Raytown, MO, Patricia (Dan) Preston, Branson, MO, son William (Lisa) King, Little Rock, AR, grandchildren Jessica (James) Cunningham, Clever, MO, Nathan (Kaitlan) Preston, McKinney, TX, Matthew (Emily) Preston, Lee’s Summit, MO, Elijah (Natasha) Preston, Crane, MO, Kevin King, Fayetteville, AR and Kara King, Rogers, AR, and great-grandchildren Camden, Conner, Cooper, Jaxan, Brendan, Addie Grace, Elias and Haisley Preston. She is also survived by her wonderful friend Doris Wehr, who enabled Robbie to stay in her home before moving to Maples Senior Living and by Joe, Beth, and the residents at Maples who became family, especially during the pandemic. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Ministerial Alliance or to Cornerstone Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors at 9:30 am and the services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday August 21, 2021, at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lamar, MO. A private family interment will follow.
