Velma Jean Quick, 88, Lamar, passed away May 22, 2013 at Barton County Memorial Hospital. Jean was born April 11, 1925 to Reuben and Nancy Ethel Presson Barton in Dayton, AR, one of fourteen children. Jean served in the United States Army Air Force as a medical technician in El Paso and San Antonio, Texas. She received the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for her service. Jean met and married Jack Quick, June 7, 1947, in San Antonio, TX. They were blessed with eight children. Jack and Jean spent sixty five years of marriage together before his passing, they will spend their sixty sixth year together in heaven. After Jack's retirement from the military, they bought a farm in Lamar. She worked at Chastains Nursing Home in Lamar as a medical technician. Jean was a wonderful homemaker and made famous by her grandchildren for her outstanding cookies. She always had cookies on hand for their visits. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lamar, MO. Jean is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; sons Don, David and Bob Quick; one granddaughter; one great grandson; eleven brothers and sisters. She is survived by sons Jack Quick II, Lamar, MO, Terry Quick and wife, Debbie, Springfield, MO; daughters, Cathy Worley and husband, Jerry, Lamar, MO, Karen Riegel and husband, Terry, Lamar, MO and daughter Pam Tate, Overland Park, KS; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, William and Charles.
