Vera B. Caruthers, 85, Lamar, passed away May 30, 2013 at Truman Healthcare and Rehab. Vera was born July 26, 1927 to Bert and Nellie (Hininger) Sprouls in Oakton, Mo. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1945. In 1947, on May 17 Vera married Frank Caruthers in Girard, Ks. She was a telephone operator for SW Bell,. She worked at Thorco, Lilly's Dept. Store , the Lamar Clinic, and many years for Dr. Reavley. She enjoyed raising her children, keeping up with all their activities, working in the yard, gardening, canning, cooking, walking, and bike riding. She loved going to any of her families activities. Vera also cooked Sunday lunch for all the family for years and several evening dinner meals when anyone could come. She always baked cinnamon rolls for everyone's birthday as a special extra gift. She was a member of the Oakton Baptist Church before moving membership to Lamar First Baptist Church. She taught Bible school and Sunday school. She was also in the choir and really enjoyed being on the Kitchen Committee. Vera is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Caruthers; brother, Marion Sprouls; twin sister, Velma Sprouls; and daughter, Janet Rice. She is survived by sisters Violet Ring of Nashville, Mo, and Shirley Cook of Arnold, Mo; son David Caruthers and wife Pam of Lamar, Mo; daughter Peggy Banwart and husband David of Lamar, Mo; 7 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
