Viola Mae Devore, 95, passed away on July 21, 2014, at the Ottawa Retirement Village in Ottawa, Kansas where she had lived the past 11 years. She was born January 8, 1919 in Joplin, Missouri to Earl Lee Harris and Sarah Elva (Edwards) Harris. She was a 1937 graduate of Nevada High School and most of her life was spent as a resident of Nevada, Missouri. She married L.L. (Roy) Devore on June 1, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1984. She was a longtime member of the Pine Street Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Does Auxiliary of Elks Lodge #564. She worked more than twenty years in the laundry at the Nevada State Hospital, retiring in 1981. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, two brothers and her husband. She is survived by her son Earl Devore and daughter-in-law Maridee (Kelso) Devore of Ottawa, KS; a granddaughter and her family, Laura and Greg Swearngin and great-grandson Landon of Ozark, MO; a grandson and his family Steven Devore and great-grandsons Kyle and Parker of Lawrence, KS. A graveside service will be held at Newton Cemetery in Nevada on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11am with services provided by Konantz-Warden Funeral Home of Lamar, MO. The family request your thoughts and prayers in lieu of floral tributes. No memorials have been designated.
