Obituary of Patsy Manley Smith

Patsy Jane Manley Smith passed away October 17, 2018 due to pancreatic cancer. Patsy was born in Des Moines, Iowa, February 16, 1933 to George W. Manley and Iva Loveall Manley. Patsy was married to Frank Alexander Smith 1962-1993. Patsy is survived by one brother George L. Manley of Vancouver, WA; a daughter Piper Jane Blankinship (Jeff) of Layton, Utah; a step-son Thurston Smith (Rose Anna) of Tucson, AZ; a granddaughter Janis Sorter; a step-daughter, Gay Lavallee Fraser (Tom) of Austin, TX; and a grandson, Marcel Lavallee. Patsy graduated from High School Milford Twp. School in Nevada, IA. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Weber State University in 1997 with a Bachelor in Social Work. She was a member of Alpha Delta Mu National Social Work Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi. She was a licensed social service worker and a licensed substance abuse counselor. She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and served as Northern Branch Representative, Vice President, and President of that organization. She has been a member of the Utah State Social Work Board from 2005-2009. She worked at the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Program in Ogden, Utah,  for 12 years. She was the Program Director of the men and women's program from 1999-2010 when she retired. She continued her volunteer services as Secretary of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, she served on the Prevention and Recovery Day Committee at Weber Human Services, the Weber Coalition for a Healthy Community, and the Healthy Mom's Commitee at McKay Dee Hospital; she assisted as a volunteer for the Celebrate Recovery Group at Washington Heights Community Church which she regularly attended. Fourteen years of her life was spent working in the substance abuse field at Serenity House, Clinical Consultants, and the Salvation Army. Needless to say, Patsy enjoyed Social Work. She had been a member of the Friendly Visitor Organization in Cocoa Beach, FL; the Suicide and Crisis Phone Service in San Bernardino, CA; Meals on Wheels, Ecology Commission and established the Phone Alert League with the Ministerial Association in Yucaipa, CA. This volunteer service provided a daily check on those living alone who were elderly or disabled. There will be a funeral service 11:00 A.M. Friday October 26, at the Konantz Warden Funeral Home in Lamar, MO.  There will be a Visitation time from 10:00 A.M. Friday until the time of the service.  Burial will be in Wagoner Cemetery, Stockton, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

A memorial service and luncheon will be held on Friday, November 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in Ogden, Utah at Washington Heights Church, 1770 E 6200 S.
