Obituary of Floyd Wilson Banwart

Floyd Wilson Banwart, 96, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019.  He was born March 26, 1923 in Barton County to Eli and Lizzie (Braker) Banwart. Floyd went to school through tenth grade in Iantha, MO and then through twelfth grade in Mindenmines, MO.  He served in the US Army, in the Philippines, during WWII and didn’t have enough points to come home so went to serve in Korea until he could come home.  Floyd married Doris Goodman April 4, 1948 and started farming.  In the winter, Floyd and his brother Ray would work as carpenters building barns and sheds.  Doris died May 11, 1984.  Floyd then married Marie (Lanz) Simons on June 1, 1985.  He retired from farming in 1989 and started a woodwork shop that he worked until he was 93 years old.  There he made beautiful pieces of furniture.  One year he made 42 Adirondack chairs due to their popularity. Floyd had quadruple bypass surgery in 1995 and had rehab three times a week for the next 23 years.  In 2018 Floyd could no longer stay in his home so he moved to Maple Senior Living where he made several friends.  

Floyd is survived by two daughters, Judy Miller (Doyle) of Iantha, MO and Patti Todd (Greg) of Lamar, MO and by two stepchildren, Wally Simons (Pam) of Girard, KS and Ann Landrum (Keith) of Neosho, MO; 8 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren and his sister Mae Chapman of Kansas City, MO.  Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris, his second wife Marie, and his brother Ray Banwart.

Memorial gifts may be given to Iantha Cemetry or the Iantha Methodist Church.  Checks written to the church can be made out the The Iantha Community Center.

 

Visitation at Konantz Warden Funeral Home Monday June 24, 2019 6pm-8pm.  Funeral at Konantz Warden Funeral Home Tuesday 10am.  Interment at Iantha Cemetery.
