Vernie Faye West passed away on Thursday September 1, 2022, with her son Tim at her bedside. She was born in rural Barton County on November 9, 1934, to Aneace Pernina “Tiny” (Hackney) and Arthur Bray Sr. Vernie married Harve Russell “Tuffy” West September 3, 1949, in Bentonville, AR. She was a Master Gardner and an arts and crafts specialist who enjoyed participating in crafts shows. She and Tuffy made grapevine wreaths that they sold to florists. They also kept a garden and took their produce weekly to farmers markets where they sold out every week. On the way home they would treat themselves to Sonic for their hard work. She was very artistic and would paint elaborate birdhouses her son Tim and husband Tuffy made. She was also a seamstress and made quilts. She enjoyed going fishing with Tuffy so that she could catch a bigger fish than him and was an excellent shot. Vernie served as PTA president for Liberal Schools and was a Brownie Scout Leader. She was an excellent cook who made the most wonderful homemade ice cream, pies, and other dishes. She had a firm belief in God and she loved life every day.
She is survived by her son Timothy West of Liberal, MO; daughters Linda (Mike) Carpenter of Joplin, MO, Brinda (Mark) Bolton of Ft. Scott, KS, and Drinda Farrell of Paola, KS; 11 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and other family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 13 siblings.
A graveside service will be held at Shiloh Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Friday September 2, 2022.
