Jack Gaylen Quick Sr., 87, Lamar, passed away July 9, 2012. Jack was born in Wichita, KS to Ralph and Mildred Applebee Quick. He married Velma Jean Barton, June 7, 1947 in San Antonio, TX. Jack was very happy and proud to celebrate sixty five years of marriage. They were blessed with eight children. Jack retired after 26 years of service in the Air Force. He served in WWll, Korea and Vietnam. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, World War ll Victory Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal/6 awards, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Oak Leaf, National defense Medal, Korea Service Medal with 2 Stars, United Nations Korean Service Medal and Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. After Jack's retirement from the military as a hospital administrator, they bought a farm in Lamar, because Jack had always wanted to be a "Hobby Farmer". He worked for Dale Phipps Ford and the Coop. Despite losing his leg, this did not slow or stop him. He enjoyed his combine, tractor and his 4 wheeler. Jack was a member of the Methodist Church, Lamar, MO. He had been a member of the Lion's Club, involved with the boy scouts, and loved bailing hay, and spending time with his family. Jack is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Don, David and Bob Quick; brother's John and Larry Quick; sisters Darlene Bay and Milsene Bay. He is survived by his wife, Velma Jean; son Jack Quick 11, Lamar, MO; daughters Cathy Worley and husband, Jerry, Lamar, MO, Karen Riegel and husband, Terry, Lamar, MO; son Terry Quick and wife, Debbie, Springfield, MO; daughter Pam Tate, Overland Park, KS; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brothers Bud Quick, and wife Eleanor, Lajunta, CO, Gary Quick and wife, Mary Lou, Cheraw,CO.;sister-in-law Bea Reynolds, Pueblo, CO.
