Obituary of Dorothy Heydenberk

DOROTHY RUTH HEYDENBERK Dorothy Ruth Heydenberk, 100, passed away June 28, 2013. She was born July 3, 1912 in Walnut, IL to John Grover and Ruth Frances Deininger. She started kindergarten at Drumright, OK, and went on to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Art and Education at the College of the Pacific, Stockton, CA. Dorothy also studied at Southwest College in Springfield, MO and Kansas State Teacher's College, Pittsburg, KS. Dorothy lived in eight states and visited in Jos, Nigeria, when her grandson was born there. She was a Christian and has been a member of four denominations, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist and Community Missionary. Dorothy was a lifelong teacher and advocate of children, elderly and the underprivileged. She enjoyed sports, crafts and wrote close to four hundred poems. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Willis A Heydenberk; her parents; a sister Lois Adelle; brothers, James Paul and John G. Jr. She is survived by son Willis Jerion Heydenberk; three grandchildren; Dawn M Jones, Andrew Jerion Heydenberk; one nephew; four cousins; and many friends. HASTINGS, Neb.-A memorial service was held for Dorothy Ruth Heydenberk, 100, Hastings, who died Friday, June 28, 2013, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Lake Cemetery in Lamar Heights, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction of Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Hastings. Memorial contributions may be given to the family. Jones, Hastings, and Eve R. Groff, Junction City, Kan.; a grandson, Andrew Jerion Heydenberk, Fountain, Colo.; six great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Adelee; two brothers, James Paul and John G. Jr., and her husband, Willis A. Heydenberk.
